Waiting time

Went to the vet today. Sabbath is in stable condition. It turns out she did have bleeding into the intestinal tract - probably on Sat when she deteriorated so quickly. However, the vomiting stopped by last night and she could eat a bit. Thankfully vets have special diets for sick dogs - and the canned food smells really good. This morning I was there in time to feed her - and it was great to see her eating easily. All messy of course with food stuck over her 'beard'. But it must be a special treat for her after years of dry food at home.
The pallor is still there. And they are not sure whether all bleeding has stopped completely .....from what I understand, it is probably like human dengue hemorrhagic fever. So it's a matter of waiting to see if and when the platelets and red cell count improves. I am thankful, at least for this extra time of stability in her condition. Thankfully too, this week my schedule is more flexible and I have time to visit her every day. When such things happen, one appreciates whatever extended time is granted.
This time of waiting has brought back memories of the time when my younger son was in neonatal intensive care because of prematurity. It was a one day at a time wait as well.....wondering each day, what the news would be........
Watching and waiting.........expectant and hopeful, but also willing to painfully let go when called for.
