Bodily health

These times have revealed new 'enemies' to the human condition. We humans might have assumed that this century, with the most technological and efficient of health systems would be freer of diseases. The tiniest of viruses has proved us wrong. We would have thought our standards of hygiene would spare us, but the little bugs spread like wildfire. Many of us may have been exposed to the virus by now and are depending on our immune system to spare us from serious symptoms.
I have taken care to wear a mask while at the clinic. But I might have caught something earlier this week as I started having aches and headache and at one point a mild fever, but without flu symptoms. This has gone on several days, and although not really sick I'm just not functioning as efficiently as usual.
I have discovered one of the 'gifts' of being unwell. Of course it would be wonderful to pray and be healed immediately. Be on top of the world and get on with life's seemingly 'urgent' tasks. But not so - often these viral illnesses just take their course and all we need is good rest. This is where the lesson and gift lies - to remain patient and at peace through it all - a time for the fruit of peace and patience to ripen. To give thanks for yet another reminder of the frailty of the human body and so to progress another step in the direction of poverty of spirit, of humility and dependence upon God.

Well said, well said. Often peace and patience is a greater need in times of illness than instant freedom from the symptoms.

Thankfully, I seem to have recovered from the bug or whatever it was. But hopefully, the fruit of peace and patience will continue to ripen, even in better times, praise God.
