Remembering St. Thomas
"Blessed are those who have not seen and have believed"
We who believe in Jesus although we have not seen him are truly blessed......the gift of faith is a 'gift', never earned nor could it be assured just by knowing a lot of information about Jesus. It is God who has touched our hearts with his grace and filled us with the Spirit of truth that we can "see".
I find myself frequently praying to "see as God sees" and to "love as God loves". It is not easy because self (ego) gets in the way much of the time. Thomas was his 'doubtful' self when he asked for concrete evidence that Jesus was alive. Yet Jesus graciously gave him the evidence he sought.
It is not 'wrong' to be our 'real' selves as we approach the Lord, however doubtful fearful etc....we can truly trust that he will grant us the grace we need to "see as he sees" and "love as he loves".
Thomas' gift brought him to a new level of discipleship....as would God's gift of spiritual "sight" to each of us.
