Faith support
The paralyzed man was in no condition to physically pick himself up to go to Jesus. Yet he had his faithful group of friends to help him!! This reminds me of the times and situations when we are just too worn out to pray for ourselves ....and can trust our faithful friends to uphold us..... This is not as uncommon as we might think... for there are situations when our prayers run dry and we actually feel helpless, spiritually if not physically. At such times, the faith of our friends can hold and bring us to the Lord - and we can trust in His response to those who "love one another" in this way.
Yesterday, I was touched when visited by a 70 plus year old lady from the Methodist Church I will soon be joining as a member. She is part of the home group in my area and 'assigned' to be my 'sponsor' for membership. In fact, I found out I will be quite near her home when I (finally) move (and all those delays are yet another long story....). It will be difficult to join in all the home group meetings as they are at night - and my work, my meetings and training are mostly in the evenings!! But at least I know I have a 'group' of faithful friends in my area that can be called upon.
Incidentally, in our conversation, I found two connections with her: she is the cousin of a doctor friend I used to work for, and secondly, more importantly she knew my mother! They taught in the same Convent school many years ago. And she told me how my mother often spoke about me......with pride.
I don't believe in coincidences except that they are also 'providential'. I know the Lord is speaking to me through all this....and I am grateful as I look forward to taking it to prayer.
