First love

John 21 : 15 - 19
Jesus reminds Peter the weak and fallen one that he invites him to a love relationship with him. All is forgiven and he is given the opportunity to open himself to his "Friend" again. Peter responds with "Yes" even if his level of love does not match Jesus' offer (phileo versus agape). Jesus accepts him where he is and knows that like the yeast it will be enough leaven for his whole being.
The "more than these" is Jesus' way of asking if He can become our "first love". Do we love him above all else .......above other things, which are all created by God, and are his gifts to us?
Late have I loved you, O Beauty so ancient and so new. Late have I loved you! You shone your Self upon me to drive away my blindness. You breathed your fragrance upon me....and in astonishment I drew my breath...I tasted you, and now I hunger and thirst for you. You touched me...and I burn to live within your peace (St Augustine: Confessions)
