God's visitation
"God has visited his people"
Praise God that with him nothing is impossible. In fact, there are many miracles in our midst, if we choose to pay attention. Some are spectacular, as in this narrative: a dead man was brought to life! All of us hope to be at the receiving end of such visitations of the Lord. Wouldn't that really give a boost to our faith?
Most of the time, however, we are visited by the Lord in less obvious ways.......he comes to us more gently, more inconspicuously and we do miss his comings when we fail to pay attention. The spiritual discipline of noticing helps us grow in awareness. It is a matter of spending time now and again, reviewing our lives for signs of God's presence and action. Sometimes, we are 'blind' to something close to our lives and we need another to help us notice. Something right up close may be difficult to focus on. That is where someone else, with some distance from the event can help us 'see'. I spoke to someone recently who recognized God's transforming action in her life as very gradual; in fact he worked through many daily situations, over a long period to set her free from certain personal issues. No less a visitation than those of the spectacular kind.
I do wish that more often, the testimonies we hear in church would echo the wide range of visitations of God. We hear mostly of physical healing, answers to prayers for job/financial situations... but rarely of the deep transformation that goes on deep within. I would say that such changes are as significant to God as bringing a dead person back to life. After all, even the person healed of a physical ailment will succumb one day. But the inner changes wrought by God will bring a person from one degree of glory to another.
