Awareness walk
I sometimes wish I lived in a more 'temperate' climate. I 'dream' of the wonderful walks I could have and also how conducive it would be for retreats, even in places near the city. But God's handiwork I realize is not limited to my 'ideals'. He can and does speak with equal clarity in his world, wherever that is. At the last retreat I facilitated a couple of weeks ago, at a housing area in KL, the retreatants decided to have a morning walk at a nearby housing area, on a hillside. It was fine, for God works with whatever limitations there may be - to him they are not as important as a sensitive and aware heart. Some of the instructions given were:
As you walk, use all your senses to encounter God.
Look carefully and in detail at what is around you.
What do you see, hear, small?
What can you touch or taste?
Find a nature object and bring it back with you or hold an image of it in your mind.
Sit with this gift of nature
Touch it, hold it - physically or as an image in your mind.
Listen to it.
Is it saying anything to you?
Let it be a source of God's Word for you.
Write a poem or draw an image to record your experience.
