Second Sunday of Advent

Luke 3: 1 - 6
Prepare the way of the Lord

To live is to change and to grow is to change much. John the Baptist had his years in the desert, being formed, purified and prepared to speak a prophetic message...about the advent of God into human history. As we hear his words today, we may ask what are the mountains in our lives that need to be leveled? Pride and prejudice perhaps? What valleys need to be filled? The lows of fear and despair? What wilderness needs to be cleared to prepare us to recognize God's presence in our lives?
God of newness, and Lord of change, keep us faithful to the process of growth. Sift through our hearts, softening edges and rubbing us smooth...that we might be a better fit in the palm of your hand. Amen.
