It is the time of year when most Christian friends I know are really "busy" - mostly with church activities and the many social gatherings that happen around this time. I suddenly realized last week that for me - it is actually the quietest time for several months. The spiritual formation programs I've been involved in have closed for the year end break. And now that we've more or less settled into the new house I gradually find myself much more free. (Of course there was the change of floor tile last week with lots of dust flying around and another little work to come - to cover up the side of the patio a bit more, from the rain) I could almost sense the old guilt trap popping up again - but chose to ignore it this time. Time to just enjoy the more relaxed season - catching up with friends when I can and just pottering around my garden (there's plenty to do and learn about life from gardening!), not to mention the regular housecleaning : -)Of course there will be a lot of literal feasting as well this month.....and already this week, I've been out for lunch or dinner several times. Am always grateful more for the company than the actual food (having some food restrictions) but I guess as Malaysians food usually comes first in any get together....
Still trying to go through the Advent readings in order to hear how I am called to prepare myself for Christmas. It is sad that our churches do not seem to help us in this process. Apart from using the season to reach out to non Christians, sharing God's love with them, it is also a season to call ourselves back to a deeper and more meaningful following of our Lord, creating more room for him in our lives.
