John's testimony and ours

1 John 1: 1 - 4

This is what we proclaim to you:

what was from the beginning,

what we have heard,

what we have seen with our eyes,

what we have looked upon

and our hands have touched -

we speak of the word of life....

(This life became visible;

we have seen and bear witness to it,

and we proclaim to you the eternal life

that was present to the Father

and became visible to us)

John the beloved disciple tries to express what he saw, what he believed and what Jesus meant to him and meant for the world.....

What an amazing testimony that can be ours too if we just take time to review and recollect what "we have seen, heard and touched....." (or to put it another way, how God has made himself known personally to us in our lives). This Christmas season we have had opportunities to be with family and friends. There has been much feasting (literally with food) but also hopefully feasting on the presence of Christ in our midst. And so may we like John be ever ready to share the life giving Word that has come into our midst.
