Royal families

Matthew 12 : 46 - 50
To be part of Jesus' family is the highest honor - for it is to be a family member of a 'royal'
line. The behavior of earthly royalty sometimes leaves much to be desired - and is not to be emulated. Yet, Jesus' royal line turns the whole idea of privilege and honor upside down. Those who belong to his family, do not use their privileges for self gain. Instead, those who lay aside self interest and 'obey the will of his Father' are counted as family.
Simple as that. The way is narrow that leads to eternity - while the way to self destruction is deceptively wide open.
These thoughts help me to more willingly embrace the discipline of simplicity. The temptation to grab and hold on to many things is always subtle....after all, "it would look really nice for my new place" , and all these thoughts. Jesus reminds us that being part of a royal family has a different sense than the earthly one. That privilege and honor are conferred by the King to those who learn to submit willingly to his guidance. And trusting that he never short changes his beloved children. All of us, in giving away self will, will inherit a treasure "no eye has seen and no ear has heard" of.
