Covering up

Matthew 14 : 1 - 12
Herod was aware of his sin when John the Baptist confronted him. Yet he chose the path that led to cover up, rather than humble conviction and conversion. Using his position and power, he was able and capable of removing the 'thorn in his flesh'. In doing so, he committed even greater sin, not to mention causing the death of one of God's prophets. It is never easy to take a stand on things that we know are not right. Especially when we are the person involved. Herod, in spite of his great outer displays of power had no strength of will and heart to choose the right and reject his personal wrongdoing.
Might is not everything. Indeed, when we are in positions of power and influence, it is even more tempting for there is much personal gain involved. Even in religious circles - we are all aware of those who misuse their power, in order to cover up whatever they need to hide.

Naren is much better and has gone back to college and is managing well although the day for him is long in this pre-u program (8 am to 3 30 pm). My sleep pattern is more settled again.
Today, one of our family friends told us he has just been diagnosed with cancer. The sugery is next week. He works as a handyman (plumber/electrician) and wonders whether he would be able to get back to work after all the treatments. Thankfully, the cancer seems to be localized, but it seems some chemotherapy is advised. This news brought me back to thoughts about the fragility and uncertainty of life......Something good to remember when my own small concerns and frustrations begin to loom large. There is so much mystery about life, about death......there is so much holy mystery that we can only live every moment with humble gratitude and awe.
