Waffle talk
I'm getting to be a regular at a waffle outlet at One U!! Not that often, but when I do go with friends for 'tea' - we sit there a few hours chatting, after finishing our order of pancake and waffles. Today, I had a long tea there again with a friend. Thankfully, the place is not usually too crowded - and so we don't get gentle 'hints' from the staff to leave. In fact we started at teatime and left when people started coming in for dinner!
Yesterday night we had a round up of the Enneagram profile. We met in groups of the same 'numbers' and lo and behold - I found that I belong to the largest group - 8 out of thirty are Type One (Perfectionist) !! We sure had fun sharing and laughing at the different ways this tendency plays out in our lives. From being fussy with things/people, to being finicky about tidiness, to being irritable (a disguise for anger!) to having high standards for ourselves and others........To top it all, because we had not finished our discussion by tea break time, we decided to continue while having tea (always eager to do things properly!) Later on we found that another group, the Type Seven group acted true to type by just going for tea even though they had not finished the group discussion- they are the laid back types, those with the tendency towards gluttony, seekers of the easy life.
People point out that profiles and types can make us try to stereotype others and box them in - but they serve a good purpose if they can get us laughing at ourselves - not in a frivolous manner - but with honesty and a willingness to seek God's healing and integration. As our teacher said : it is a spirituality of love in brokenness.
