Sabbath again!!

She began losing hair after the treatment for the blood parasite. I thought it might be the side effects of the treatment, so I waited a bit.....while observing the shed hairs on her cushion. Schnauzers are minimal shedders on the dog scale. I called the vet who said it might be a season of shedding. So we waited for a week or so - no improvement and it became obvious that the hair loss was from certain parts of the body - the face, the neck and the underside......Last week, I spoke to the vet again, and in the end decided I should bring her for treatment. It turns out that she has an early form of "dermodex", a reaction to mites that all dogs carry to some extent. In her case, it would probably be due to an impaired immune system after the recent infections....So it is more treatment - two months of a horrible tasting liquid drug daily plus antibiotics for the first ten days!! And special baths twice a week. Sigh...... since last week my schedule has to revolve round her again. It's not difficult now it has started but the first couple of days was a bit tough - maybe to get into the routine again!!
Anyway, thankfully, the shedding has stopped, or at least is not noticeable on the cushion she sleeps on. But it will take a few weeks for the hair to regrow.....for now, she looks a bit like a terrier, or maybe a Spitz, on her face - without the Schnauzer 'beard'.
