Sabbath

Sabbath completed her course of treatment last week. The ten day course of two drugs went well for the first seven days and then the vomiting started. Fortunately, it was controlled with medication and after a pause of a couple of doses, we managed to complete the course. It was not easy to get her to take medication. Initially I managed to hide the tablets in a small ball of food which she eagerly swallowed without chewing. But she 'found out' one day and after that refused the ball of food. So it was back to the old way of putting each tablet at the back of her tongue, closing her mouth and coaxing her to swallow (signalled by licking her nose). A number of times the tablet was cleverly expelled and the whole process repeated!!
I'm sure she's relieved (and I am too!!) that the tablets are fewer now - just vitamins to boost the blood count. She seems quite lively these days - but still appears quite pale sometimes. Anyhow, I am satisfied that we have tried all we can for her. Should the parasite persist or recur, we will have to take it from there. I appreciate her more now as a 'gift' and I think, am learning to be attached in a 'graced' way that does not prevent me from letting go.
We went for the final blood test (for now anyway) yesterday. She was anxious the moment I brought her in - guess she has learnt that it means needle punctures each time! Still waiting for the results.
