...he even makes the deaf hear....

All these miracles were pointing to something beyond....that the people of Jesus' time were just beginning to understand. He was revealing glimpses of the kingdom yet to come, one that was being inaugurated by his very presence. So they were "astonished beyond measure"....this was something way beyond their expectations.

Many of Jesus' miracles like this one give us glimpses of 'release and freedom' for the sufferers. Physical limitations were removed and in a way signifying the fullness of freedom that would be available to all one day.

So we behold Jesus - the one who does all things well. And we are asked to ponder these miracles in order to grow in anticipation of the complete freedom (both spiritual and physical) that is our inheritance one day.
