What is God's call on my life?

Mark 3 : 13 - 19
Jesus appointed twelve to be with him and to be sent out..
The most challenging question for a person might be: "What is God's call on my life?" Some of us are aware of this question and we try to make choices based on what we perceive as our unique answer to the question. But at the same time, of course many people are not even aware that such a question exists and life is lived according to other answers.
Maybe it was 'easier' for the Twelve. Jesus handpicked them; they didn't have to struggle through prayerful discernments........They were 'offered' their vocation directly.
What is noticeable of course is that Jesus chose a whole bunch of different personalities as his companions. This is evident in our Christian communities - we are all different, and sometimes, so much so that we 'wonder' if another person is really also the Lord's appointed follower!! Self- righteousness creeps in! In fact, Jesus seemed to choose ordinary people, those who lived ordinary lives, who had no social advantages. Today, in our urban churches, we no longer fit this criteria. Many have high educational background, are socially privileged, and are already at the top of their professions. Many lay people even have theological degrees!
I believe this makes it much, much harder today, for many of us, to really listen to God's call on our lives. There's too much going on; there are too many "good" choices to spoil us. I don't have any answer to this dilemma. I suppose being aware is always the first step. And then of course trying to "empty" ourselves of any extra baggage that hinders our listening. Not an easy thing.........for even the 'baggage' all seems too good to throw out. "What is God's call on my life?" This is something worth considering, at any stage; in fact, all the time.
