Food galore

This past week has seen me working a number of half days at a clinic in Section 17 Petaling Jaya. The clinic is located right in an area where food is easily available and the morning market is a stone's throw away. My children always have special requests when they know I am working there. They know which foods are good there, and since I won't be able to cook lunch (and sometimes dinner as well on working days) they get to taste the hawker specials. The all time favorite of late has been Penang fried kuey teow by someone called Robert. He knows my order well now - because, of course I am careful - no cockles please, no pork lard and less oil and salt. At least if my children have to eat take home food quite often, l will feel less guilty if it is more 'healthy'! The chicken rice stall on the other hand knows my order for lean meat, whether it is chicken or roast pork! Hmm, even the fruit seller knows which type of bananas I like to buy.
Last evening when I was ordering the kuey teow, yet again, Robert finally gave me his calling card!! He told me I can call next time and then just go to pick up the order!
Actually, because the clinic has been around many years, many of the traders are patients - and you could get a fishmonger coming in boots, smelling of fish or a butcher with his apron on, smelling to pork......perhaps that's why after all these years it remains the old style, with a non air conditioned waiting room!! And since last year, my boss has allowed the clinic nurse to stay in the back room of the clinic. She has a dog - so now there is a small dog in the back portion of the clinic. It is pretty quiet but that has made the place even more homely to say the least!! This clinic must take top prize for being quaintly unique.
