The book of nature

Recently I have realized that I have been a little 'deprived' of the beauty of nature. Living in Kuala Lumpur and in a rather built up area is no help. Sound of cars more than of the natural world. There is a park nearby but in the morning and evening hours it is often full of people seeking an outlet for exercise. I was grateful that last weekend I was able to get away even if for a day only. That was enough to bring refreshment to a dry and thirsty soul.
The sound of waves breaking on the shore was calming, stilling the restlessness within. The feel of the rough sand under my feet and sea water washing over them was delightful. There were few people about and the beach was stretched wide enough to keep people quite far apart. Sunset was a brilliant orange red, reflected on the water.
The expanse of water meeting sky in the horizon. The word of God spoken through the natural world. Spaciousness of God's presence, mystery in the depths, a longing for the eternal......some of these thoughts surfaced. It is far easier to trust in the abiding presence of God (at times when the spirit is heavy) when nature calls out his name.
The heavens declare the glory of God.
The skies proclaim the work of his hands.
May those who live in cities find their spot of natural beauty; healing for the soul.
