"I saw you"

John 1 : 43 - 51
"Before Philip called you, when you were under the fig tree, I saw you."
Philip shared with his friend Nathaniel his experience of being found by Jesus. And he found Philip and said to him, "Follow me." Although skeptical at first, Nathaniel was won over when Jesus extended a personal call to him. Sometimes theological arguments are not helpful. It is better to invite people to "Come and see" what we have found, and allow them to experience Jesus personally. The Lord meets people where they are for he knows their (and our) hearts better than they (we) do.
After all these years, I thought I should know Jesus well enough. But I find that there are always growing edges where I am being led. At this stage perhaps I am not to try harder, but wait upon Jesus, to hear him calling me, allowing him to 'find' me. This might get me out of the boxed-in categories in which I am stuck.
It is refreshing to read about Philip and Nathaniel's initial call by Jesus; the start of their journey with him. This call comes again and again, in different ways as we navigate the path that he has set our feet upon.
